“Why is there a house in my studio?” Maybe you saw in the video that there’s a front of a house in my studio. There’s a story behind it, of course.

My husband loves antiques. Whether it’s antique closets, beds, chests of drawers or even antique houses. About 16 years ago we came across the “Hylerhuus” in Münchenbuchsee. It was to be demolished because it was dilapidated. Since the house was built in 1774, it should have been listed as a historical monument. But for some reason they had forgotten to put it there. An initiative had already been formed in the village that wanted to prevent the demolition and bring about the renovation. But the municipal administration remained tough. We offered to dismantle the house completely and to preserve it in parts. And so the “Hylerhuus” found its place in our studio.

Incidentally, in 1774 Louis XVI ascended the throne as the last king of the “ancien régime” and J.W. Goethe wrote “The Sorrows of Young Werther” (source Wikipedia)

«Warum ist in meinem Atelier ein Haus?» Vielleicht habt ihr im Video gesehen, dass in meinem Studio die Front eines Hauses steht. Das Ganze hat natürlich eine Geschichte.

Mein Mann liebt Antiquitäten. Egal ob es sich dabei um antike Schränke, Betten, Truhen oder eben auch antike Häuser handelt. Vor rund 16 Jahren sind wir auf das «Hylerhuus» in Münchenbuchsee gestossen. Es sollte abgebrochen werden, da es baufällig war. Da das Haus 1774 gebaut wurde, hätte es eigentlich in das Denkmalschutz-Programm gehört. Aber aus irgendeinem Grund hatte man vergessen, es dort aufzunehmen. Im Ort hatte sich schon eine Initiative gebildet, die den Abbruch verhindern und die Renovation bewirken wollte. Die Gemeindeverwaltung aber blieb hart. Wir boten uns an, das Haus ganz abzubauen und in Teilen zu erhalten. Und so hat das «Hylerhuus» seinen Platz in unserem Atelier gefunden.

1774 bestieg übrigens Ludwig XVI. den Thron als letzter König des «ancien régime» und J.W. Goethe schrieb «Die Leiden des jungen Werther» (Quelle Wikipedia)
