Since @roflokama has already passed the ball to me, I will come back to the topic: the dear relatives!

In my experience there are three kinds. The first ones praise everything you produce over the green clover (“you’re a genius!”), the second ones look at your works all under the marketing aspect (“nobody hangs that on the wall!”) and the third ones want to push you to motives they like (“paint xy!”).

All attitudes are certainly well-intentioned, but none helps in the artistic process. I need the freedom to do something great every now and then, the freedom to produce a lot of mediocrity and to completely mess up pictures in between.

How do you feel about it?

Da @roflokama mir schon den Ball zugespielt hat, komme ich auf das Thema zurück: die liebe Verwandtschaft!

Meiner Erfahrung nach gibt es drei Sorten. Die einen loben alles, was man produziert über den grünen Klee («du bist ein Genie!»), die zweiten betrachten deine Werke alle unter dem Marketingaspekt («das hängt sich doch keiner an die Wand!») und die dritten wollen dich zu Motiven drängen, die ihnen gefallen («mal doch mal xy!»).

Alle Haltungen sind sicher gut gemeint, aber keine hilft im künstlerischen Prozess. Ich brauche, um hin und wieder etwas tolles zu machen, die Freiheit ganz viel Mittelmässiges zu produzieren und zwischendurch auch Bilder komplett zu versemmeln.
